I’ve seen quite a number of XSR around and Yamaha as a manufacturer tend to support their machines very well. The same can be said for Honda. Shouldn’t have any issues with spare parts and reliability. ADV is seen often running delivery for Grab, Food panda etc all day.
Let’s study the two bikes and see which one you prefer. Each has a different maintenance regimen and are different style of motorcycle.
XSR155 is a classic style motorbike in our uncles days these were everyday commuters that you can zhng to become neat little Cafe racers. But surprise, it has a nice and quiet modern fuel injected engine with decent power.
ADV150 is Honda’s miniature version of the powerful X-ADV 750cc adventure scooter and is more of an experimental design. It looks like Gundam styling from some angles but basically it’s a slightly taller scooter running off road tyres. It’s debatable whether anyone really takes these off road but the looks are to each individual rider’s preference. Scooter means it has better features such as adjustable windscreen, USB port and internal storage compartment. XSR, need to put external box.
Maintenance wise, I would say neither has an advantage. Modern scooters you can twist and go don’t bother about chain lube and adjustment but you need to clean CVT and replace belt as part of full servicing. For my nMax the belt life is 24,000km so I expect to replace it as a wear item yearly. For class 2B scooter servicing is relatively inexpensive, hundred bucks should settle it. The shop doesn’t even want me to come for engine oil changes anymore, saying it should be good for 3000km or more since the scoot has separate liquid cooled engine and gearbox oil supply. Means the oil not so stressed and breaking down doing lube, cooling and gearbox duty all at once like on normal bikes.
XSR treat it like a normal chain driven bike you need to lube the chain, clean the chain, adjust for wear periodically to avoid excessive noise and wear, these are normal to all chain bikes nothing special, otherwise it is a modern fuel injected Yamaha engine which is always fun and responsive. Performance wise XSR will be better in response but ADV rides like classic auto scooter, it may be hesitant to move and overtake at first but once at cruising speed it’s like driving a sofa, never need to change gear.
I used to like standard bikes but recently switched to auto scooter, so hope the writeup helps.
