I am a car guy, well, a fanatic actually and I have on my Flickr site over 106,000 images of cars in Hong Kong, lets call it my hobby.

Certain car owners in Hong Kong stand out and one of them is the husband and wife team of Stephen and Deborah Hung who are pretty well known in Hong Kong and their car collection is pretty visible.

The article below is from Dim Sum Daily (a very good online news source in Hong Kong) some months ago, speculating on the legality of the wrap on his Rolls Royce Ghost.

15th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Stephen Hung, recognised for his extravagant lifestyle and a taste echoing the bygone era of 1990s Versace, has once again stirred up online controversy. This time, the source of the uproar is his Rolls Royce, which has been converted into a multicoloured artwork by Brazilian artist Romero Britto. While the flamboyant design has garnered attention, it also raises questions about the legality of such modifications for road use, particularly given that Hong Kong law requires registered vehicle owners to notify the Transport Department within 72 hours of any changes to registration particulars, including the vehicle’s colour.

This requirement raises doubts about Hung’s compliance, as many question whether he has fulfilled these legal obligations after the transformation of his luxury vehicle, which has already been completed. It seems that the Transport Department has been lax in enforcing the law.

Netizens have responded with a mix of sarcasm and criticism, with some commenting that “money can’t buy taste,” while others have pointed out that the car appears to have originally been yellow and white. Questions have been raised about the Britto piece, with suggestions that “this car should be in a museum.” Additionally, some users expressed curiosity about what colour his vehicle registration now indicates, while others noted that Hung seems to frequently change colours, prompting discussions on the legality of such artistic modifications.

Hung, previously the joint chairman of The 13 Holdings Limited, previously faced major challenges with his luxury hotel venture in Macao. The project, envisioned as a high-end casino resort, struggled with financial difficulties and ultimately failed to secure a gaming licence, leading to bankruptcy. Despite his financial setbacks, Hung continues to attract attention through his ostentatious lifestyle.

Ever since I read about the wrap I have kept a lookout and nothing, zip, nada, so today I took a punt and stood on Chater Road in the Central Business District, one of his offices is literally 30 seconds drive from where I was stood and bingo, just after 1pm I got my imageS!

I think ir is quite stunning although to be honest I prefer the original colour scheme which is under the wrap,. my image below does not do it justice, the yellow has flecks of gold in it and the car positively shimmers, I am betting the paint job cost him a small fortune.

I have not seen any wrap on any other car that is even remotely distinctive this is a one off and absolutely fits his personality and I think it is just fabulous.
