I have been in the racing and modding motorcycles and scooter scene here since I got here 10 years ago. If you really aren’t into modding then to be honest…DON’T Do It. It really is a waste of money. The Cygnus X is a great scooter and pretty much great stock. If you really want to mod it, then don’t touch the engine. These scooters become unreliable if the engine is modded. If you have a surplus of cash and you are ok with it breaking down on you, then go for it. Most modded scooter engines don’t last more than 12-15,000 kilometers. It obviously depends on what you have modded and who built it, but it seems like even if you take care of them they still start falling apart around then.

I have a modded out scooter and it is fast, loud, and looks great. I have owned it for 6 years, bought it stock and slowly modded out everything. It is a lot of fun, but it is a headache to keep running well. Luckily I have people that can help me when I need it, but now I am a little over it. I am thinking about selling it so I can just get something reliable. Before I didn’t have to travel to far to work and back, but now I do and riding my modded scooter daily puts a lot of stress on it. I too would love to buy a brand new Cygnus. I’m a motor head and engines are my passion. Even if I bought a brand new Cygnus I wouldn’t mod much. I eventually would get a better front brake caliper and change to a little bit better tires. Maybe…maybe I would get different front and rear suspension, but I don’t think I would do much more. I could do a CVT (Transmission upgrade with aftermarket pullies, rollers, clutch and clutch spring) but that would be expensive and probably wouldn’t really even give me much of a power increase.

If you want to get into modding then you really need a reliable form of transportation first. Then buy a second hand scooter to start modding and playing around with. That is my advice. Good luck!
